Recommendations:

Find the best collection's layout (two, three, four or six columns) that fits well with your store style and products.
Use a second column link list at the footer of your store for a more complete page layout. Instructions here.
Find a good landscape background image for your store's home page hero. Making a first good impresion to your customers is key. If you don't have access to any good pictures, you can find some good ones making a Google search for "free stock photos".
If possible, upload all your product featured images with same dimensions (the image width and height). That way the collection's page layout will look much nicer (example).
At the header side navigation menu don't show too many options. Keep it simple. You can use subsections to achieve that goal. Instructions here.
Add break lines to your home page tagline so it shows nicely. Instructions here.
At the home page pitch (the "Why are we different?" section at the home page) try to have a pitch title that (when displayed on a large screen) fits into one line. And also, very important, have all the reason descriptions with similar text lengths (so all show with the same number of lines).

How do I change the fonts of the theme?

You can choose from any of the 650 different font families in Google Fonts. For changing the font family write your selected google font name at: California Theme Settings > General > Typography Regular or Typography Header.

How do I change the colors of the theme?

Yes. You can change the colors easily at: California Theme Settings > General > Colors. There are also specific section colors that you will find at: Home Page Hero, Header, Footer and Checkout sections.

How do I change the language of the theme?

You can change between English or Spanish at: Themes > Customize Theme > Theme options > Edit Languages > Change active language.

How do I change the logo?

You will need to change the home page logo and the header logo.

How do I add a newsletter form?

You can easily add to the footer of the page a newsletter form (so users can introduce their email and sign up for your newsletter). For managing the newsletter, you will need to sign up at Mailchimp (a third-party newsletter platform). Shopify provides you instructions on how to do it: http://docs.shopify.com/manual/configuration/store-customization/communicating-with-customers/accounts-and-newsletters/where-do-i-get-my-mailchimp-form-action. Once you have your Mailchimp account, then go to California Theme Settings > Footer > Extras. Check the "Show Newsletter Field" and introduce the Mailchimp Form Action URL.

How do I edit the home page text?

You can edit the home page text at: Themes > Customize Theme > Theme options > Edit languages > English or Spanish > Home page tab. Don't forget to save the changes.

How do I change the home page logo?

You can change the home page logo at: California Theme Settings > Home Page Hero > Logo.

How do I change the home page hero background?

You can change the home page logo at: California Theme Settings > Home Page Hero > Background.

How do I add a line break to the home page tagline?

Remember you can edit all your store's text (including the tagline) inside Customize theme > Theme options > Edit language.

Then just use the html tag: <br> where you want to have the line break at your home page tagline.

For example, at this store, we are using: "The best thing <br>since plastic flowers".

How do I hide the pitch section (the one with the big numbers) at the home page?

You can hide the home page pitch at: California Theme Settings > Home Page Pitch > Options > Don't show pitch.

How do I show my latest blog posts at the home page?

You can show the latest blog posts at: California Theme Settings > Home Page Preview Articles > Options > Show latest articles.

How do I change the header logo?

You can change the header logo at: California Theme Settings > Header > Logo.

How do I add subsections on the side navigation menu?

First let me be clear on what we are trying to achieve here: if you go to this store: http://california-theme-fashion.myshopify.com/, then open the side nav menu (clicking on the icon at the top right corner of the page) and then click on the option of "Stores". It will open a menu subsection with a list of stores.

So, how can you build this subsections? Follow the instructions here: http://docs.shopify.com/manual/your-website/navigation/create-drop-down-menu.

How do I add a second column link list?

First on your store's admin page, go to the Navigation section. Then click on "Add a link list" and create a new list with the information you want to include.

Once you have your link list, select your list at California Theme Settings > Footer > Content > Second column link list.

How do I show the product available stock?

You can show to your customers each products available stock with: California Theme Settings > Product Pages > Product Inventory > Show available stock units on products.

How do I hide (or show) the product social media share buttons?

You can show/hide the product share buttons at: California Theme Settings > Product Pages > Social Media Share Buttons.

How do I change how many products appear on each row?

You can change the amount of products showing on each collection row at: California Theme Settings > Collections > Layout. You can choose between: 2, 3, 4 or 6 products per row.

How do I change the order of the collections?

Unfortunately Shopify doesn't provide an easy way for this. But you don't need to worry, we have a work around for it!

Access your store's admin page and on the left nav go to the "Navigation" section. Click on the "Add a link list" button and create a new link list with title "Featured Collections" (it's important you use exactly this same title).

Then on the "Links" section start adding all your collections in the desired order. It's important all the links on this list have the "Links to..." option with "Collection".

How do I expanded the page content so it fills the entire width of the page?

When editing the content of the page, you need to pick the template option (located at the end of the page) of: page.expanded.
